ISO 16232 is a standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) which relates to the cleanliness of components of fluid circuits of road vehicles. The standard defines terminology used, specifies different methods of extraction of contaminants, several methods of determining the size and nature of contaminants, and outlines the convention for expressing the results. Parts 7 & 8 of ISO 16232 addresses common questions about conventions and techniques related to the determination of particle size, shape, and nature using microscopic analysis. Part 10 deals with the expression of results following an analysis. For more information on the standard Iso 16232 itself please refer to ISO.org website.

One of the methods mentioned in ISO 16232, which greatly speeds up the analysis, is to combine image analysis software to a motorized stage to scan the sample. Clemex PSFilter is such a system and complies fully with the requirements of ISO 16232. Standard test methods and report templates are included to match the standard exactly, and can be modified to extract additional information according to specific customer requirements.
