Stage Inserts
Stage inserts are interchangeable plates that drop into the opening of a microscope stage to hold a specific sample carrier securely and in a repeatable position. Because the stage opening is standardized, swapping the insert lets one stage accommodate many sample formats — without changing the stage itself. Clemex supplies Märzhäuser stage inserts for common carriers, a universal insert for round samples, and custom inserts made to your specification.

One stage, many sample formats
A single motorized or manual stage has a standardized opening, so changing only the insert lets it hold many different sample carriers — glass slides (from single slides up to multi-slide holders), Petri dishes, Terasaki plates, 96-well microtiter plates and Lab-Tek chambers. A universal insert holds round specimens that do not fit a named carrier.
The insert locates the carrier precisely so it does not shift during scanning or imaging, giving secure, repeatable sample seating. Versions are available for inverted microscopes and for use with piezo Z stages, and Märzhäuser can manufacture additional inserts to your specification on request.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a stage insert?
An interchangeable plate that fits into the stage opening to hold a particular sample carrier — a slide, well plate, Petri dish and so on — securely and in a defined position.
Why are they interchangeable?
The stage opening is standardized, so changing only the insert lets the same stage hold many different sample formats without buying multiple stages.
Which sample formats are supported?
Standard microscope slides (from single up to multi-slide holders), Petri dishes, Terasaki plates, 96-well microtiter plates and Lab-Tek chambers, plus round samples via a universal insert.
Can I get an insert for a carrier that is not listed?
Yes. Märzhäuser can manufacture custom inserts to your specification, so an unusual or proprietary carrier can be accommodated.
Are there inserts for inverted microscopes?
Yes. Inserts are available for inverted microscopes, including versions compatible with piezo Z stages.
